We grow towards what gives us life

Spring time in LA.  I watched this little plant grow and grow.  I was fascinated to see it bend to reach farther and farther away from it’s roots to get a glimpse of the sun.  But it makes perfect sense, it only lives because of sunlight, so naturally it needs to grow towards it.

We too grow towards what gives us life.  I am referring to more esoteric things here (not necessarily things like food and water).  Think about people, places and situations that quicken you.  Laughter and smiling enlivens; it rejuvenates our Soul.  Naturally, we form emotional bonds, and grow closer to people who make us happy.  Naturally, we grow closer to a place where we feel comfortable and safe and enjoy the looking at the beautiful environment.

If we are not growing, by default, we are going backwards.  Just like we grow towards what gives us life, we also retract away from people and situations that we feel sucks away our life energy, our mental clarity, our happy, safe, good feelings.  This is a natural safety built in for our protection.  However, in some situations we can change whether we are being quickened or drained.  If we will remember that others live and grow by the same principles, we can remember to reach out with loving, life energy to those around us.  And we would do best to remember that how we treat people in turn, comes back to us in how we are treated.

Unlike plants growing towards the sun no matter where they have to go to find it, we too have a choice where to get our “sunlight” and life energy.  It comes from within as well as outside of us.  We can choose how to nurture the people and situations we find ourselves in so that all are enlivened.  Let us remember to shine brightly and lovingly for those around us; and to give appreciation to those around who shine for us and quicken us.

Bliss and Abundance!!!
Hope Grace Roe 🙂

Look closely.  You can see the awning shadow and the house next door and the post on the porch which all block sunlight.  You can see this little plant reaching farther and farther to bask in as much enriching sunlight as possible.  Notice the blossomed tip which still reaches to soak in those last possible rays as the afternoon draws on.
